My story
Why am I doing this?
And how do I even start?
Thirty-five years in IT. Hundreds of projects. And a decision — finally — to stop climbing the ladder and start building something that actually matters to me.
The thirty-five year journey
I graduated and walked straight into IT. That was thirty-five years ago. Since then I've done pretty much everything — written code late into the night, led development teams, managed people, delivered hundreds of deploys, and built more websites and applications than I can honestly count.
I've seen technology go through era after era. The web turning everything upside down. Mobile changing it again. The cloud shifting it once more. Each wave brought new skills to learn, new tools to master, and new ways for businesses to get left behind if they didn't keep up.
I've been lucky enough to be in the room — and often leading the room — through most of it. And now we're in the middle of another one of those moments. Except this one feels different. This one feels bigger.
In the industry — developer, lead, manager
Real projects, real businesses, real stakes
From simple brochures to complex web apps
AI is genuinely different
I've watched plenty of technology trends overpromise and underdeliver. So when AI started making the headlines a few years back, I was sceptical. I'd been around long enough to know the hype cycle.
But the more I worked with it — really worked with it, not just played with demos — the more I realised this is not a trend. This is a genuine shift in what's possible. The things I can build in a day now would have taken a team of developers weeks just a few years ago. The barrier to creating something useful has dropped dramatically. And it keeps dropping.
That's exciting. But it's also a problem — because most small businesses haven't got anywhere near it yet. They're still hearing the noise, feeling the pressure, and having no idea where to start. That gap is exactly where I want to be.
Not millions. Freedom.
I want to be honest about this, because I think it matters.
I'm not trying to build the next unicorn. I'm not chasing a big exit or trying to grow a company with a hundred employees. I've been in those environments. I know what they cost you.
What I want is simpler than that. I want out of the nine-to-five. I want to leave the rat race behind and do work that I actually care about, on my own terms. A lifestyle business — one that pays well enough, gives me flexibility, and means I spend my days doing something genuinely useful rather than something that just moves numbers around on a spreadsheet.
That's what this is. That's why I'm doing it.
The mission: small businesses first
If you run a local business — a shop, a trade, a café, a service — you probably don't have a tech team. You might not even have a full-time member of staff. And you've almost certainly been told AI is "the future" without anyone bothering to explain what that actually means for you on a Tuesday morning when you're trying to get through a full inbox.
That's the gap I'm trying to fill. I've got thirty-five years of experience translating complex technology into plain English. I've done it for developers, for business owners, for board members who didn't know what a server was. I'm good at it. And I think small businesses deserve someone like that in their corner when it comes to AI.
No jargon. No upsell. No tech degree required. Just honest help from someone who's been in the industry long enough to know what actually works — and what's just noise.
What that looks like in practice
Plain English, always
No acronyms, no jargon. If I can't explain it simply, I haven't understood it well enough.
Focused on what matters
I've seen enough technology for the sake of it. Everything I recommend is about real-world benefit for your business.
A genuine partnership
I work with you, not at you. You should always understand what we're building and why.
Start small, build fast
Thirty-five years taught me that quick wins beat big plans. We'll find something useful in days, not months.
Let's have a chat
If any of this resonates — or if you're just curious what AI could actually do for your business — I'd love to hear from you. No pitch, no pressure. Just a conversation.
